One day at at Time

Yesterday was a step in the right direction. I ate well, and put myself thru probably the hardest workout I've done in the two weeks I've been at this. Also, after my self depreciating, woe is me post, I did some thinking. I guess I came up with a few things.

  1. I need to change my mindset. Instead of focusing on the bad, I need to praise myself for the good moments thru out the day.

  2. I need to stop comparing myself to others. It seems as though all of you as so very dedicated, and you've achieved so much in such a short time, that when I don't get comparable numbers then I get discourged. I know it's cliche but this is a marathon not a sprint. It may take me a little longer to get there, but I WILL get there.

  3. I am going to stop coming up with reasons why I can't do this. I am not going to let myself off the hook this time. No more "Lame Excuses" as Rip would say. I CAN do this.

  4. Fourth (something I've already vowed to do but got away from last week) I am going to stay accountable to FAT. Good or bad, happy or sad, I will let you know how I'm doing. No more hiding when I don't feel good about how thing have gone. I'm not saying I'll post every day, as I'm not as good of a writer as many of you are and can't turn my daily trials into great stories, but I'll keep you up to date.

  5. Last but certainly not least, I am going to make specific goals. Right now with how my schedule changes day by day, I don't think that I can make specific plans for each day, but I can make target goals for certain time frames.

Thank you Brian, Kristen, Melissa, Rip, and Rob for your words of encouragement yesterday and this morning. It's so nice to have that support, and I assure you that it's not taken for granted. Thanks again!!

Nice Kyle, I like the new change of attitude and the thoughts you outlined. You will succeed if thats what you really want. I also 100% agree that we are all totally different so don't expect similar results (the whole results may vary small print at the bottom of ever product). I also understand your frustration with not getting the A students results (since I am not a A student weight loss wise either).

Weight loss is really pretty simple if you want to keep it that way. If you get in exercise and eat less/better than you used to you will loose weight.

having the meal plan works because it keeps you from getting hungry and making a bad decision like a drive through or vending machine. You get hungry you eat what you planned. I know its easier said then done. So its not that you need everyday scheduled but do have a plan set to allow yourself to succeed. 80-90% of weight loss is diet so step up and make a eating plan. "Plan to succeed".

Keep your chin up man your making your life better by putting in some time and effort now.

I like your plan, Kyle. If I would have started out wanting to lose 70 pounds, I would have failed within a couple of days. I needed to do one thing at a time...sometimes adding more...always pushing forward though...

Just stick around. We're all rooting for you.

Nice to read about your change. Dont compare yourself to another, that always leaves us feeling pretty crummy unless we can find someone worse off than us to compare ourselves to which thats usually not what we do.

Rip is right in that weight loss is pretty simple. Eat less than you expend and wahlah you lose weight. Add to that some exercise and you lose more. Pretty simple right? But the hard part is being dedicated to eating less and working out. Thats often tough for me too but I can gurantee you that if you stick it out be it a 2 months, 6 months or a year from now youll be smaller.

Kristen is also right in saying set mini goals that set you on the path to your overall goals. Also set goals that are not tied to the scale (ie - im going to walk 2 days this week). When you meet those goals and maybe dont lose a pound you still have something to be proud of because youre making healthy changes that will lower your risk for Cardiovascular diseases.

Youre blog is appropriately titled...one day at a time. Thats all we have.

PS - you may not think youre as eloquent as others but I personally love reading your blog so you have to write frequently just for me :) just kidding.

Yeah...I don't know why you think you don't write well. I've loved it from the first post...maybe it has something to do with liking the same types of books? :)

Sounds like you've got a solid plan in order. I totally agree with you about not comparing yourself to others. It's a tough thing NOT to do in a group like this - it always seems like there's that one person each week (month) who's on a roll. As exciting as it is to see them succeed, it's hard not to wish you had the same drive/results/whatever. But you've definitely got to focus on your goals and your achievements, completely separate from everyone else's. Are you setting small goals? That's what saved me, I think (among so many other things). Having the small goals to strive for took my focus off the daunting goal of losing 100 pounds. Just take it a step at a time. You'll get there before you know it. :)

Loving your blog today Kyle! All of things you outline are all great stepping stones to making this work for you. We can only control each day at a time, heck each meal and hour at a time. I am excited to watch your progress :)

You're so right Kyle - it is a sprint. Comparing yourself to others is dangerous. It can be motivating, but also discouraging. Don't forget, a lot of people here have been at this for a long time, and we have all had our ups & downs.

Loving your idea of focusing on the positive things. I read an article that suggested writing down 5 good things you did that day every night before bed, to keep your confidence up. Feeling good about yourself is definitely an important key to success on this journey. Good luck!

I'm guilty of the "comparing my progress to that of others and then feeling discouraged." I look at people who have made tremendous progress and I don't see it happening for me, but it is, even if it's at a glacial pace. We just have to keep doing what we know is right, and we'll see the results.

Yeah, stick around man, if you keep at it and keep posting, we'll help hold you accountable and you'll see some great results!

Looking forward to your journey.

way to go! i should thank you for the positive vibes you've put out today- it strengthened my resolve to iron out certain issues i've had with nutrition and training. i agree with you on feelin intimidated by numbers. everyone here has lost so much weight its pretty embarrassing at times when all i have to crow about is a pound of weight loss a week or less than that. well our bodies are not all made the same so in due time, we'll have more to offer.

I read on Kristen's blog that "A year will come and go regardless.
Will you be better or worse?"

Keep the blog and FAT in the forefront of your thoughts. No one here will disown you if you have a bad day. You won't get kicked out for "breaking the rules".

Look at the man in the mirror and be accountable to yourself 1st.
